How to use the range
The order of a routine matters more than the number of products in it. Here is the sequence, morning and evening, and the reasoning behind each step.
Protect what you built overnight
Mornings should be brief. Skin has spent the night repairing, and the goal is to keep that work rather than wash it away and start again.
- Rinse or cleanse. If you cleansed properly at night, water alone is often enough. Cleanse only if your skin is oily by morning.
- Mist onto damp skin. This is your water layer, and it costs about five seconds.
- Serum while damp. Two or three drops, pressed rather than rubbed.
- Cream to seal. A thin layer is enough during the day.
- Sunscreen last. We do not make one yet, and any broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher will do the job.
Restore what the day took
Evenings are where the actual repair happens. This is the routine worth spending an extra minute on.
- Cleanse thoroughly. Once is usually enough. Twice if you have worn makeup or sunscreen all day.
- Mist generously. Skin is more receptive at night, so this layer does more work than the morning one.
- Serum, slightly more. Three or four drops while the skin is still damp.
- Cream, slightly heavier. A more generous layer, since nothing has to sit on top of it.
Four things that quietly undo a routine
Applying to dry skin
Humectants pull water from wherever they can reach. On dry skin in a dry room, that can mean pulling from deeper in your own skin, which is the opposite of the intention.
Water that is too hot
Hot water strips the surface lipids that hold moisture in. Lukewarm is genuinely enough, even in winter.
Adding products too quickly
When four new things go on at once and skin reacts, there is no way to know which one caused it. Introduce one product at a time, several days apart.
Stopping too early
Comfort changes in days. Anything visible takes weeks. Most people abandon a routine right before it starts showing.
About the Routine
Yes. Apply your active after cleansing, then continue with mist, serum and cream. A well hydrated barrier usually makes actives easier to tolerate, not harder.
No. The serum and cream are the core. The cleanser and mist make them work better, but starting with two is a perfectly reasonable way in.
Both if you can. If you can only manage one, make it the evening, when skin does most of its repair.
Two to three drops of serum and a pea-sized amount of cream for the whole face. More is not better, it is just used up faster.
Begin the ritual
Two minutes in the morning, two at night. That is the whole commitment, and skin responds to consistency more than it responds to complexity.
